Post-Decree Matters: Opportunities for Change

Is a divorce ever really final? Yes and no.

Once a divorce or dissolution becomes final, you will no longer be married to your former spouse. However, certain elements of a divorce or dissolution agreement can be changed even after the action becomes final.

The attorneys of Brinkman & Associates in Cincinnati, Ohio, represent clients in post-decree matters such as modifications of child custody, parenting time, spousal support and child support. We also assist clients in enforcing those provisions that cannot be changed or should not be changed.

Often, the needs or wishes of the children change as they grow, or the circumstances of the different households change such that one or both parents desire modifications to the current order. We can help you understand your options for seeking a change to provisions regarding parenting time, child support, spousal support, extracurricular activities, stepparents, tax exemptions and other important considerations.

We are frequently consulted by single or divorced parents about relocation issues. We represent the interests of both parents when one or both of them wish to relocate with their children. We help them explore whether or not such a move would be in the child's best interests.

We often take care of post-decree matters that were not previously addressed. For example, we will draft Qualified Domestic Relations Orders (QDROs) or see that they are accomplished. These often-overlooked documents are necessary to divide pension and other retirement plan assets in a divorce.

When the other party is in contempt of court-ordered child support or spousal support, or has failed to deliver property or pay a debt as ordered, we can help you with enforcement of the court order.

Have changes in your life have made terms of your parenting or support arrangements unworkable? Please contact the lawyers at Brinkman & Associates. Call us toll free 866-761-7660 to discuss your post-decree matters.

I really appreciate the way Mrs. Brinkman handles difficult situations and difficult people.  She represents me with confidence, yet always makes sure that I know what is going on and that I fully understand my options.  Her paralegal Tamara, have also answered my questions promptly and professionally; and have helped me through some tough times.

Karen Brinkman was brilliant in court; I obtained full custody of my daughter and am extremely grateful.  She made my family, my witnesses, the other professionals, and myself very comfortable by constantly educating us and keeping us informed of the law and the legal procedures.  She deserves a lot of credit for her careful wording of motions and entries and her ability to take charge of out-of-control situations.

-Dave B.

Karen and Tamara went into action on behalf of my son and granddaughter.  Their caring attitudes come through in everything they say and do.  I am sure that I will be looking to Brinkman & Associates for legal advice and for common sense answers whenever I have a family law question in the future.

I was very thankful that I had Mrs. Brinkman on my side when I went to court regarding a modification of child support that had been requested by my former husband in the Hamilton County, Ohio, Juvenile Court.  She returns my calls and responds to my emails promptly and thoroughly.
