Attaining Results Through Mediation

Located in downtown Cincinnati, Brinkman & Associates offers divorce and family law mediation services to disputing parties. We also prepare our clients to participate in mediation sessions as a way to resolve disputes.

What Is Mediation?

Mediation is an alternative dispute resolution technique designed to help parties come to an agreement outside of court. The two parties meet with a trained mediator, a neutral third party, who listens to both sides. Mediators help the parties brainstorm options and explore alternatives, but they do not represent the interests of one party over another and are not there to decide contested matters. The role of the mediator is to facilitate the discussions of the parties and to help the parties focus on the issues that need to be addressed to avoid future conflict or unnecessary litigation. Their work is to help the two sides come to an agreement. Divorce mediation is a requirement in many Ohio jurisdictions, especially in shared parenting plans, before disputes can go to court.

Partner With A Trained Mediator

Our founder, attorney Karen Brinkman, is a trained mediator who is available to serve as a neutral third party in family law mediation. She helps divorcing couples and others involved in family law disputes resolve their conflicts. Because of her knowledge and experience in all aspects of family law, she is well-equipped to mediate contested issues involving property division, child support determination, custody, shared parenting and other issues.

Representing Clients In Mediation

When our clients participate in mediation, we fully prepare them for what to expect and how to handle themselves. Mediation is an important opportunity to settle a dispute. Our lawyers make sure clients understand the difference between agreeing to a reasonable compromise and being victimized by the other party. Mediators do not provide representation or draft the documents required for filing in Court. Our attorneys will prepare the documents necessary to effectuate your mediated agreements.
